At least 35 people died when a high-speed train smashed into a stalled train in China's eastern Zhejiang province while traveling from Hangzhou to Wenzhou on July 23, state media said, raising new questions about the safety of the fast-growing rail network.
About 190 people were reported injured.
The accident occurred on a bridge near the city of Wenzhou after the first train lost power due to a lightning strike and a bullet train following behind crashed into it, state television said.
TV footage has shown that two train coaches had fallen off a bridge after derailing.
According to the BBC, the pictures showed one carriage lying on its side under the bridge, and the other standing on its end leaning up against the bridge. There have been reports that four carriages from the other train also derailed.
China is currently spending billions on building a high-speed rail network.
Last month, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao formally opened a flagship $33 billion line from Beijing to Shanghai, but that route has since has suffered problems with delays caused by power outages.
