Dead, Injured After Earthquake In China's Northwest Gansu Province

Authorities in China now say at least 75 people have been killed and hundreds more injured from a strong earthquake in the northwestern Gansu Province.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake, which struck early morning local time on July 22, at a magnitude of 5.9.

The Chinese government's earthquake-monitoring center said the quake was magnitude 6.6 and followed by subsequent tremors that included one of magnitude 5.6.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency said the quake hit the Minxian and Zhangxian areas, about 170 kilometers from the Gansu provincial capital, Lanzhou.
