Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin have jointly voiced opposition to any foreign intervention in Syria or any military attacks or further sanctions targeting Iran.
On June 8, the two presidents released a statement at the end of a meeting in Beijing saying: "Russia and China are decisively against attempts to regulate the Syrian crisis with outside military intervention, as well as imposing . . . a policy of regime change."
The statement said the two countries also oppose "using military force or the threat of force against Iran and do not approve of directing unilateral sanctions" against Iran over its nuclear program.
Hu and Putin also called for restraint on the Korean Peninsula and the speedy resumption of six-way talks on North Korea's nuclear program.
