The Pakistani Taliban say they have kidnapped a Chinese tourist in the country’s troubled northwest.
The man, identified as Hong Xu Dong, was on a cycling trip when he went missing on May 19 in Daraban, near the town of Dera Ismail Khan.
Abdullah Bahar, a purported commander for a faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), said the man was in their custody.
Bahar said the Chinese tourist was abducted in an effort to force Pakistani authorities to release TTP fighters in their custody.
Police said security forces had launched a search to find the man.
