China has released results of its national census showing that its population, already the world's largest, has risen to 1.34 billion people.
The figures, released by the National Bureau Of Statistics, showed that the Asian giant's population increased by 73.9 million, or nearly six percent, from 2000 to 2010.
The census results also show that the Chinese people are growing older -- the proportion of people aged 14 or younger has fallen to 16.6 percent, down from nearly 23 percent in 2000, while the proportion of people aged 60 or older has grown to more than 13 percent, up nearly three percent.
The numbers also show that almost half of China's population now lives in urban areas -- up from the 36 percent who lived in cities and towns 10 years ago.
