U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States seeks improved strategies with Arab Gulf states on maritime security and missile defense to counter the threat of Iran.
Addressing a security conference in Saudi Arabia, Clinton said the U.S. and Gulf governments share concerns about Iran's nuclear activity and interference in the affairs of its neighbors.
She said that partnership with Washington had "enormous potential" to advance common interests, describing U.S. commitment to the Gulf as "rock solid and unwavering."
The comments come a day after U.S. President Barack Obama vowed to forge ahead with tough sanctions on Iran, saying there was enough oil in the world market to allow countries to cut Iranian imports.
Also on March 30, Clinton discussed oil market stability with Saudi King Abdullah.
