Hollywood actor George Clooney has been detained along with four U.S. congressmen at a human rights protest outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington.
The protest was organized to draw attention to a humanitarian crisis in the border area between Sudan and South Sudan, where an estimated half-million people face starvation due to the Sudanese government's alleged blockage of aid.
Clooney is a longtime activist for human rights in Sudan and has made numerous trips to the region.
Clooney's father, as well as the eldest son of the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., were also detained at the protest.
The demonstration took place just one day after Clooney met with U.S. President Barack Obama to urge action on Sudan's humanitarian crisis.
