Daghestan's acting president Ramzan Abdulatipov has dismissed the government and appointed former deputy prime minister Anatoly Karibov as acting prime minister.
Abdulatipov made the announcement at a cabinet meeting on July 22.
Abdulatipov's spokesman Magomedbek Akhmedov was quoted by the Russian news agency Interfax as saying that the government was dismissed because of its "inefficiency."
The current cabinet will remain in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed.
Abdulatipov was appointed to the post by Russian President Vladimir Putin in January.
In April, Putin signed a law allowing parliaments in Russia's republics to elect their leaders rather than conducting popular elections.
