Damascus Bombings Kill At Least 10

Explosions in the west Damascus suburb of Qudsaya have killed at least 10 people and wounded some 40 others, according to British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Syrian state media confirmed the bombings and said there were deaths and injuries, but did not give any numbers.

The suburb was in the Hai al-Waroud district on a hilltop above Damascus.

It is reportedly an area inhabited mainly by members of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's minority Allawite sect.

Earlier on November 6, the brother of Syria's parliamentary speaker was shot dead as he drove to work through Damascus.

Mohammad Osama Laham, the brother of speaker Jihad Laham, was the latest in a wave of political assassinations targeting Syrian government officials, including some relatives of President Assad.
