Russia Annuls Contract Between Danish National And Defense Ministry On Deployment In Ukraine

A Danish citizen who signed a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry and was sent to the war in Ukraine.

A court in Russia on August 22 annulled a contract between the Defense Ministry and a Danish citizen, who claims he was duped into joining Russian troops invading Ukraine. The man, whose lawyer asked RFE/RL not to disclose his identity, moved to Russia in the summer of 2023 and joined the Russian armed forces on condition that he would serve in a non-combatant unit, hoping it would help expedite his efforts to obtain Russian citizenship.
