Egypt's state news agency (MENA) says prosecutors have decided to transfer ousted President Hosni Mubarak to a military hospital, where he will remain under guard pending interrogation.
The MENA report did not disclose the location of the military hospital. Mubarak was ousted in February by popular protests.
He was hospitalized earlier this week in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh after falling ill during a meeting with prosecutors investigating abuses during his 30-year rule.
On Wednesday, prosecutors ordered him detained for 15 days for questioning.
His sons, Alaa and Gamal, were also detained for 15 days as authorities investigate the killing of antigovernment protesters as well as embezzlement and abuse of authority during Mubarak's regime.
