EU Disappointed With Iran's Progress On Nuclear Concerns

The European Union says it is disappointed with “very limited” progress by Tehran to address concerns about "possible military dimensions" of its nuclear program.

The statement came at a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency on September 18, a day after EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York.

Iran and the P5+1 are to restart talks in New York on September 19 in an effort to reach a permanent nuclear deal by November 24.

But Zarif on September 18 said Tehran wants the accord limited to 10 years.

The P5+1 wants Iran to scale down nuclear activities so it cannot produce nuclear weapons.

Iran denies trying to develop nuclear weapons and wants economic sanctions lifted.

Ashton is the lead negotiator for the P5+1, which includes the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France, and Germany.
