In a new video, the father of the only U.S. soldier now held captive by militants in Afghanistan has appealed to the Pakistani military for help in freeing his son.
In a video posted on YouTube on May 7, father Robert Bergdahl says his family is "counting on the "professional integrity and honor" of Pakistani military leaders to help secure the release of his son, Bowe Bergdahl, who was captured in Afghanistan in June, 2009.
Robert Bergdahl directly refers to Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the head of the Pakistani intelligence service.
It's unclear where 25-year-old Bowe Bergdahl is being held. The Associated Press reports that a video emerged earlier this week showing him standing next to a senior official in the Al-Qaeda-linked Haqqani network in Afghanistan's Paktika Province.
The Bergdahl family lives in the northwestern state of Idaho.
