Gunman Kills Two People In Finland Rampage

Police say a gunman in southern Finland has killed two people and wounded several others in what appeared to be a random shooting.

According to Finnish authorities, an 18-year-old man has been arrested after the shooting in the town of Hyvinkaa early on May 26.

Police detective Markku Tuominen said the motives for the shooting were unclear.

""The background of the perpetrator is almost clean," he told reporters. "There is hardly any information about him in the police files."

According to police the man opened fire with a rifle from a rooftop, killing an 18-year-old woman on the spot. An 18-year-old man later died in hospital from his injuries.

The gunman also injured at least seven other people, including a police officer who arrived at the scene soon after the shooting began and is said to be in a critical condition.

Hyvinkaa is some 50 kilometers north of the capital, Helsinki.
