First Russian Transgender Politician Says She Was Forced To Detransition

Yulia Alyoshina, the first Russian transgender politician, says her announcement in May about detransitioning was made under pressure. Alyoshina told the Novaya Gazeta Baltia newspaper on June 25 that she was threatened with being confined to a psychiatric clinic if she continued to be a woman. Born in 1990 as Roman Alyoshin, the ex-chief of the Civic Initiative political party branch in the Siberian region of Altai changed gender to female in 2020.
