Gazprom, Naftogaz To Jointly Develop Ukrainian Gas, Coal Fields

Russia's Gazprom says it has signed a deal with Ukraine's Naftogaz to develop natural-gas and coal-based-methane deposits in Ukraine.

Gazprom said in a statement that it would help extract coal-based methane in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region and develop the Pallas gas field in the Black Sea off Ukraine's coast.

The Pallas field is estimated to hold some 75 billion cubic meters of gas.

Officials from Gazprom and Naftogaz were reportedly in talks on forming a "strategic partnership" between the two companies but no further details were provided.
