Opposition protesters in the breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia clashed with police as they tried to storm a building of the de facto government in Sukhumi on July 5 and into the morning of July 6. Four people were reported injured. The protesters were demanding the resignation of the territory's interior minister and the postponement of a referendum on early presidential elections. Early on July 6, Abkhazian television announced that the minister, Leonid Dzapshba, had been dismissed. (Reuters)
