German Foreign Minister Holding Talks In Tbilisi

TBILISI -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is in Georgia for high-level talks with government officials.

Steinmeier -- whose visit comes three days after Russian military units held maneuvers in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia -- will meet his Georgian counterpart, Tamar Beruchashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, and President Giorgi Margvelashvili during his two-day visit.

The German Embassy in Tbilisi says an agreement on the construction of a German international school in Tbilisi will be discussed at the talks.

Steinmeier visited Tbilisi along with his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, in April.

His current visit starts a day after the Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a note protesting military exercises conducted by Russia's Southern Military District in South Ossetia last week.
