Gunmen Kill Pakistani Policeman Escorting Polio Vaccination Team

Police say gunmen have opened fire on polio vaccination workers, killing a police officer escorting the team in the northwestern Pakistan.

The incident happened in the Kala village of the troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province on January 29.

Police said the two-man polio team, along with the security officer, was going door-to-door to vaccinate children, when three armed men attacked them.

The polio workers escaped unharmed. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Nine polio workers were shot dead across Pakistan in similar attacks in the last month. Pakistan, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, are the only nations in the world where polio remains endemic.
