Pakistan police say unidentified gunmen have shot dead at least 17 people in a new wave of violence in Pakistan's commercial hub, Karachi.
City police chief Fayyaz Leghari said the apparently targeted killings took place over the past three days and include the murder of a local television journalist.
Analysts and security officials blame much of the recent waves of violence in the city on the rivalry between the two main parties, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and the Awami National Party, both part of the ruling coalition in Islamabad.
Tankers Attacked
In southwest Pakistan, meanwhile, government officials say gunmen set ablaze 14 tankers carrying fuel for U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Local official Fatteh Mohammed says one driver also was wounded during the attack, which occurred in the Dera Murad Jamali area of Baluchistan Province.
Islamist militants and criminals in Pakistan frequently attack trucks carrying supplies from the port of Karachi for U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
