Clinton To Begin Global Diplomatic Tour Today

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is due to leave Washington today for her latest diplomatic tour.

Her first stop is in Turkey, where she will attend a meeting in Istanbul on July 15 of foreign ministers from the so-called Contact Group on Libya.

Clinton will meet with Turkish officials for talks on July 16 that are expected to focus on Middle East peace efforts, Turkey's strained relations with Israel, Iran, and the brutal crackdown on pro-reform demonstrators in Syria.

Clinton also is to attend an event in Istanbul aimed at promoting religious tolerance with the head of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference.

From Turkey, Clinton travels to Greece for talks on July 17 likely to be dominated by that country's financial crisis.

She will then head to India to resume the U.S India Strategic Dialogue that will likely focus on counterterrorism and India's role promoting stability in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

After India, Clinton goes to Indonesia for a Southeast Asian regional security conference on the resort island of Bali.

She also plans to make a stop in Hong Kong and a brief stop in mainland China before returning to the United States on July 25.
