Ukraine is commemorating the victims of the Holodomor famine this year on November 26. Millions of people died of starvation between 1932 and 1933 when Soviet authorities seized food to force Ukrainian peasants to join collective farms. In 2018, RFE/RL spoke to Samara Pearce, who revealed how her great-grandfather secretly photographed the suffering in the city of Kharkiv.
