Days of heavy rain have wreaked havoc in Central Europe, affecting Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria where deadly floodwaters have already peaked. The flood tide is expected to culminate in Hungary by September 21. The Danube River's water level is set to reach 8 meters as it crosses the capital, Budapest. Communities there are building flood defenses. Sand bags though are not always reliable and communities are calling for more modern means of flood protection as high waters are forecast to keep returning in the future.
