Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on July 16 that Hungary will offer the option of taking up a third dose of an anti-coronavirus vaccine from the beginning of next month and make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for all health-care workers.
Orban told state radio that doctors will decide which vaccine people should take up as a third dose, which should come at least four months after the second shot, unless doctors advise otherwise.
More than 5.5 million of Hungary's estimated 9.8 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine, meaning the government has reached its goal, officials said earlier this month.
Hungary is the only EU member state that, besides the three EU-approved vaccines, has also given the green light to Russian and Chinese jabs in large quantities before the European Medicines Agency has examined or approved them.
