Independent Belarusian Radio’s Offices Searched, Equipment Confiscated

Police seize computers and other materials from Radio Racyja's offices in Minsk.

MINSK -- Police in Belarus are reported to have confiscated computers and notebooks in a raid on the offices of a Poland-based independent radio station in Minsk.

Radio Racyja’s journalists say they were not shown a search warrant before the raid late on May 2.

Police said officers confiscated the equipment for "checking."

No further details were given.

Radio Racyia broadcasts in Belarusian on shortwave from Poland.

The authoritarian Belarusian regime has imposed measures that make it impossible for independent broadcasters to send signals from inside the country.
