Five Killed In Operation In Ingushetia

Five suspected militants have been killed in a security operation in the restive Russian North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.

The Interior Ministry branch in Ingushetia said a security operation was conducted in the village of Sagopshi, in the Malgobek district on May 24.

Security forces chased the suspects into a house where a policeman resided.

They subsequently refused to surrender and opened fire on the security forces.

All five of them were killed when security forces returned fire. The policeman and his wife were also killed.

Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said the slain combatants were responsible for the assassination of Ingush Security Council secretary Ahmed Kotiev last August.

Kotiev was killed along with his driver while the two were traveling along the Malgobek-Nazran road and came under attack.
