The cleric of a Shi'ite mosque in the mostly Sunni flashpoint Iranian city of Zahedan has been shot dead, the state news agency IRNA reported on November 3. IRNA named the dead cleric as Sajjad Shahraki. The police commander of Sistan-Baluchistan Province, Ahmad Taheri, said a special task force had been formed to find and arrest the perpetrators. Zahedan was the scene of one of the deadliest days during a wave of protests after a woman died in police custody after being detained for improperly wearing her hijab.
