The British government has sent its first diplomat in Iran since the United Kingdom closed its embassy amid tensions in 2011.
New nonresident charge d'affaires Ajay Sharma arrived in Tehran on December 3 for talks with officials from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sharma previously worked as a deputy head of the mission to Tehran.
He said he plans to visit Iran regularly to help improve relations between the two countries.
Britain withdrew its diplomats in late 2011 after protesters stormed the building in the wake of new sanctions imposed on Iran.
Sharma said he visited the British Embassy to see the damage caused in 2011.
