Iran’s national police command said on August 30 that officers exhibited a "lack of anger control" while handling a man who died in custody earlier this week in the northern Gilan Province. The rights group Hengaw reported that Mohammad Mirmusavi was severely beaten by police in the city of Langarud following his arrest on August 24. The 36-year-old, who had been involved in a street brawl, died three days later. The allegations of police brutality prompted Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian to order an investigation.
