Iranian President Hassan Rohani has appointed a woman as a new vice president and to lead the country's Tourism and Cultural Heritage Ministry.
In a statement on his website on November 5, Rohani said he was naming Zahra Ahmadipour to the new positions, becoming the third woman in his cabinet.
Ahmadipour, who is also an assistant professor in the geography department at Tarbiat Modares University, had previously served as a middle-rank official in the country's Interior Ministry.
Rohani had appointed Ahmadipour's predecessor, Masoud Soltanifar, as the minister of youth affairs and sport on November 1.
Iran will hold a presidential election in May and Rohani is expected to seek reelection to a second and final term.
