Iranian opposition websites report that authorities have detained several people who attended a campaign meeting for moderate presidential candidate Hassan Rohani.
A report on June 2 by "Kaleme" said that police arrested at least seven people at the gathering in Tehran's northern neighborhood of Jamaran the previous day.
"Sahamnews" said those detained included several members of Rohani’s campaign team.
The opposition website reported that during the rally, Rohani criticized heightened security measures in the country, saying: "In the streets, universities, schools, organizations, we must put an end to this security atmosphere."
His supporters also shouted slogans calling for the release of political prisoners.
Rohani, a senior cleric and former nuclear negotiator for Tehran, is one of eight approved candidates standing for president in the June 14 presidential election.
