Thunderstorms, Flash Floods Kill 4 In North Iran

At least four people have been killed in thunderstorms and flash flooding in northern Iran, state media report.

The website of state television channel IRIB reported that a family of three -- the mother, father, and their child -- drowned in a flash flood near a river bank in northern Golestan Province on September 2.

In the same province, a 70- year-old woman died after being struck by lightning while working outside in a village.

Roads were blocked in some Golestan areas, leaving motorists stranded, officials said.

In Mazandaran Province, reports said the storm, with winds of about 130 kilometers per hour, cut power lines and damaged more than 900 roofs on houses in the city of Amol.
