The U.S. State Department says U.S. and Iranian officials held a "constructive discussion" about Iran's controversial nuclear program.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held talks in Geneva on August 7.
No details of their discussion were given.
Burns led a U.S. delegation that included Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman and Jake Sullivan, who is Vice President Joe Biden's national security adviser.
The State Department and EU officials said on August 7 that six major world powers -- Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia, and China -- along with the EU, would meet with Iran ahead of September's UN General Assembly in New York.
Washington some of its allies suspect Iran is using its nuclear program as a cover to develop atomic weapons, a charge that Iran denies.
