Iraq Bombings Kill Civilians, Police

Iraqi officials say at least six people, including three policemen, have been killed across the country.

Security officials said the first attack occurred on the morning of August 7 when a roadside bomb hit a police patrol in the northern city of Mosul, killing three police officers and wounding two others.

Another bomb attack in Mosul missed a police vehicle but killed one civilian.

Meanwhile, a bomb attached to a car killed two people in Mussayyib, a town about 60 kilometers south of Baghdad.

Violence has spiked recently in Iraq amid sectarian and political tensions.

This year's holy month of Ramadan, which is coming to an end, has been the bloodiest since 2007.

Iraqi government figures published recently revealed the July death toll from violence killed some 1,000 people -- the highest monthly figure since April 2008.
