Reports saying the leader of the Islamic State militant group has been wounded continued to emerge on November 9.
The Associated Press (AP) news agency cited two Iraqi officials and state television as saying Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was wounded in an air strike in Anbar province, in western Iraq.
AP cited an Interior Ministry intelligence official as saying the strike occurred early on November 8 in the town of Qaim.
It said the official cited informants among the militants.
It said a senior military official said he had learned in operational meetings that Baghdadi was wounded, but that neither official knew the extent of the wounds.
Pentagon officials said they had no immediate information on such a strike or on whether Baghdadi had been wounded.
Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency reported that Iraqi military forces reached the center of the northern city of Baiji on November 9 in an effort to break a siege of the country's biggest refinery by Islamic State militants.
