Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Iraqi President Fuad Masum has applauded the U.S.-led international coalition supporting his country against Islamic State (IS) militants.
In his speech on September 26, Masum also called for greater regional cooperation against the extremist group which he said "thrives on crises and disputes."
He said the IS group, which controls large parts of northern and western Iraq, transcends states and continents.
Britain, Belgium, and Denmark joined on September 26 the coalition of nations that are launching air strikes on IS targets in Iraq.
