The U.S. military says it has destroyed a drone being used by Islamic State (IS) militants to scout out the positions of their battlefield opponents.
Military spokesman Major Kim Michelsen said on March 18 that the drone was small and unarmed, the kind anyone could purchase commercially.
Michelsen said IS fighters had been using the drone for reconnaissance near Fallujah and then placed it in a vehicle.
A U.S. air strike destroyed the vehicle.
The U.S. military also said it had conducted 11 air strikes on IS targets in Iraq and two strikes on IS positions in Syria during a 24-hour period.
Most of the attacks in Iraq happened near Ramadi. Other attacks occurred near Kirkuk and Mosul.
The strikes in Syria took place near Al-Hasaka and Kobani.
