U.S. and coalition planes have reportedly launched 13 air strikes near the Syrian border town of Kobani in the last 24 hours, as they continue their air campaign to help Kurdish fighters drive the last Islamic State (IS) forces out of the city.
The Combined Joint Task Force said in a January 28 statement that strikes around Kobani hit 12 IS tactical units and a vehicle, and destroyed nine fighting positions, a staging area and three buildings.
Kobani, near the Turkish border, has become a symbol in the battle against IS militants who captured large swaths of Iraq and Syria last year.
The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) had announced the "liberation" of Kobani on January 26.
The United States said January 27 that Kurdish fighters were in control of about 90 percent of the town.
