Egypt's Islamists are to comprise about 60 per cent of a 100-member panel assigned with drafting a new constitution, which will decide the role of Islam in the state and minority rights.
The names of the panel's 100 members were published by parliament on March 25, showing that members of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and the radical Salafists made up the majority of the panel.
Members of parliament voted to choose the panel's members on March 24.
The new constitution is meant to define the powers of the president and the future role of the military.
