The extremist group Hamas carried out an unprecedented, multi-pronged attack on Israel, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of Hamas fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land, and sea and catching the country off-guard on a major holiday. Hamas has been designated by the United States and the EU as terrorist group and is a key member of Iran's axis.
