Police in Kazakhstan detained more than three dozen people in several cities, including Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, who were trying to gather for anti-government protests deemed by authorities as "illegal actions." People attempted to protest on October 26 against the "expansion" of business ties between China and Kazakhstan. They also called for the release of political prisoners by Kazakh authorities.
