Kazakh Police Kill Six Suspected 'Militants' In Almaty

Kazakh security forces clashed with gunmen after surrounding an Almaty apartment building.

ALMATY -- Police in Kazakhstan say six armed men killed in a special operation in the country's largest city were bandits with criminal records.

The six, who were tracked down as part of a hunt for the shooters of two police officers, were killed in an apartment on July 30.

According to police, the killed suspects have been identified. They all have served various prison terms for burglary, theft, and assault in the past.

Police said three unidentified men shot and killed an officer, severely injured another officer, and seized their arms in Almaty on July 28.

Police and special security units clashed with gunmen on July 30 after surrounding an Almaty apartment building.

Police said that after evacuating around 130 people, forces stormed the building, killing the suspects, who refused to surrender.
