Kazakh, Russian Security Officers Apprehend Alleged Criminal Group In Baikonur

Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (KNB) says its officers and counterparts from Russia's Federal Security Service have apprehended 18 alleged members of a criminal group. The arrests were made in the southern city of Baiqonyr, also known as Baikonur, where a major cosmodrome is located that Russia leases for its space programs. According to a KNB statement on January 4, the members of the group who were allegedly involved in robberies, extortion, and abductions, were detained a day earlier in the Kazakh cities of Astana, Qyzylorda, and Qonaev.
