A court in Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, has posthumously convicted five men who were shot dead during the unprecedented anti-government protests in January last year. The Bostandyq district court found the men guilty of taking part in mass unrest and attacking state buildings. The men's relatives said the ruling will be appealed. According to them, the men were victims of police and security officers who opened fire on protesters following a presidential order "to shoot to kill without warning."
