Kazakhstan Shuts Down More Than 100 Highways Amid Heavy Snowstorms

Kazakhstan has been forced to shut down 127 highways across the country due to heavy snowfalls, the Central Asian nation's Emergency Ministry said on January 4. According to the ministry, special rescue teams have been established to locate and provide help to motorists stuck on highways amid the ongoing snowstorms. Overall, 691 people, including 137 children, have already been rescued in several regions, while rescue work continues, the ministry said.
