Kazakh officials say they will send a "written" protest to organizers of the International Sport Shooting Championship, who mistakenly played a song from the comedy movie "Borat" instead of the Kazakh national anthem during the award of a Kazakh athlete.
Kazakhstan's Shooting Sports Federation said on March 26 that if it found out the Kazakh side was responsible for the mishap, it would "punish" those behind the mistake.
The spoof song, which portrays Kazakhs as backward, was played last week while the Kazakh champion Maria Dmitrenko received the gold medal.
The organizers of the medal ceremony have issued an apology.
The song was taken from Sacha Baron Cohen's 2006 film "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," which outraged people in Kazakhstan and was eventually banned in the country.
