The executive director of Kazakhstan’s KazAtomProm national nuclear company has been arrested on corruption charges.
Kazakh State Anticorruption Agency said on April 1 that Valery Shevelyov is suspected of embezzling $710 million.
One of Shevelyov's deputies, whose last name only -- Abdrazaqov -- was made public, was also detained.
The probe is related to the construction of KazAtomProm's new facilities.

KazAtomProm’s former president, Mukhtar Dzhakishev, has been serving 14-year jail term for corruption since his arrest in 2009.
Dzhakishev and his supporters have insisted his conviction is politically motivated.
KazAtomProm is Kazakhstan’s major operator producing uranium and nuclear-fuel cycle services.
Kazakhstan has no nuclear power plants.
