The top U.S. and Russian diplomats have met to discuss a United Nations Security Council resolution on the Syrian government’s pledge to dismantle its chemical weapons.
Secretary of State John Kerry and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held closed-door talks on September 24 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Kerry said the meeting had been "very constructive."
Lavrov called the talks "productive."
However, officials were quoted as saying the American and Russian sides had not yet been able to reach agreement on the text of a draft resolution.
Diplomats say Russia remains opposed to any mention of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which provides for possible military action.
Earlier this month, Russia and the United States agreed to a deal that calls for Syria to destroy all its chemical weapons by mid-2014.
