U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is due to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on October 22, in a visit to mark next month's 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Kerry arrived October 21 and held a late-night meeting with his German counterpart, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The two discussed the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Ebola virus, and the nuclear talks with Iran.
On October 22, Kerry and Steinmeier were to lay a wreath at a memorial at the Berlin Wall, which fell on November 9, 1989.
U.S.-German ties remain clouded by the 2013 revelations of spying by U.S. intelligence agencies on German soil, including the bugging of Merkel's mobile phone.
