A Moscow court on June 19 ordered the transfer to house arrest of former municipal lawmaker Ketevan Kharaidze, who was sentenced in 2022 to four years in prison on extortion charges that she rejects as politically motivated. Kharaidze is awaiting a court decision on her appeal of the sentence that she insists is linked to her decision in 2022 to run for the State Duma, the Russian parliament's lower chamber. In September 2022, Kharaidze took part in the election of the municipal council of Moscow Tver district while in custody and was reelected.
